On Day 3 of our vacation we drove from Livingston, Montana to Sheridan, Wyoming. Southern Montana is truly beautiful. We drove the northern route back in 2011 but I prefer the views in the south.
We stopped around lunchtime at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. It is the site of Custer’s last stand. It is one of those places that makes you stop and think about what went on there. If you get a chance to stop at this location, we found it well worth it to watch the short video they provide. It gives clarity to what you are looking at.
There are grave markers where the soldiers fell scattered over the hillside. The bodies were moved eventually but the markers are a stark reminder of what happened.
The Native Americans also have a monument here as well as markers for their fallen warriors.
You can see in this photo that coins or rocks are left on the graves, some more than others. I don’t know why but would be interested if anyone knows and cares to share the reason.
This little fellow joined us on the pathway down the hill at one point. He is such a cutie, don’t you think?
