USA Day 14

On this day we woke up to blue skies and were on the road by 9.  A few years ago, we did a tour on our bike down the “Million Dollar Highway” north of Durango.  The scenery was stunning and it took us all day to do 100 miles -both because of the twisty road and because I had to stop so often to take photos.  We only managed to do one half of the loop back then and decided we would complete it all on this trip.

We headed west of Durango to Cortez and then north.  Oh my goodness!  It was just as stunning as I remembered.

We stopped in Telluride for lunch.  I would love to come back to this pretty town.  There was a herd of elk just outside of town that we had to stop and watch for a bit.

Then we continued on to Ridgeway where we turned south and retraced the route we had followed in 2011 back to Durango.  The leaves had blown off of many of the trees on this side of the mountains but it was still beautiful.  We went through some rain as well and, as you can see, there was snow in the peaks.

There is something about the colour of the yellow leaves in this part of Colorado that is truly breathtaking.  If you ever get a chance to take it in, it is well worth the drive.
