Our Christmas Tree

I have never done a themed tree.  Ours is always filled with ornaments collected over time, many with special meaning attached to them.  And I always do coloured lights.  The last few years we have looked for what I call a “slough spruce” as we don’t have much space.

I thought I would share some of my favorite ornaments.  We bought this little Saint Nicholas almost 30 years ago in Innsbruck, Austria.  We were travelling light so this little guy was easy to carry around for the remainder of the trip.

These two birdhouses were carved by my sister and were gifts to me at our family celebration.  I am hopeful I will receive the same again this year!

I collected many of these little birds and nests a few years ago and like to find branches to nestle them in the tree.

These two ornaments are signed by “Lisa”.  I have several of her pieces and they are like little works of art.

This mushroom reminds me of a candle in my childhood home.  And it reminds me of Germany, where my mom was born.

And who can resist a melting snowman?!

I used the fabric I purchased at the end of the season last year to wrap around the base of the tree.

Though I appreciate the beauty of a tree done in a one colour theme, I could never turn my back on a tree full of memories and carefully selected ornaments gathered over 31 years of marriage.
