What I Believe

What do I believe as a follower of Jesus Christ? I know many of the people that read my blog are Christians as well. But I also know that some of you are not. So I would like to be open about my faith. Here goes.

I believe God exists. I believe that God is comprised of the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. They each have a role to play.

I also believe that Satan exists. And I believe that he is at war with God for supremacy. And he wants to take as many of us with him by the time the end of this world comes as he can.

I believe that God is good and where He is, evil cannot exist.

I believe that Satan is evil. It’s funny to me that many people love to talk about heaven and God but few want to acknowledge that Satan exists and is at work. But just look at the headlines in the world around you.

I believe that God created us to be in communion with Him. He created the natural world around us for our benefit and enjoyment. For those of you that don’t believe in creation because it isn’t scientific I invite you to check out Answers in Genesis (answersingenesis.org).

I believe that when God created us He gave us free will. We can make our own choices. And those choices can affect us, those around us and generations to come. Both for good and for bad.

I believe that the more we let Satan have his way in this world, the more corrupted it becomes in every way. And because we have freedom of choice, innocent people suffer.

I believe there is “right” and “wrong”. Satan is very clever and disguises his schemes in situations that are very compelling to our human nature. He is ready to take advantage of every hurt, every desire, every frustration, every feeling, every experience we have. He doesn’t care so much about winning you to his side as he does about keeping you away from God. He wins whether you are a full blown devil worshipper or whether you are an atheist.

I believe that God still wants us to be in communion with him. But we are a mess. All of us. There are no exceptions. And because we sin (yes I am going to use the word sin) we can’t end up with Him because evil cannot be where He is. And there is no way we can atone for our sins ourselves.

So God provided a way. Jesus came and took the punishment for our sins. The punishment we deserved, He took. To access this amazing gift we have to confess and understand that we are sinners, recognize what Jesus did on the cross for us and accept it. Our relationship is restored. Yay!

Once we are back in relationship with God, He will begin to change us. He does that through our conscience, the Bible, wise believing folks around us… Some have heard His voice audibly. I have not, but I have had strong convictions come to me.

I also believe that there are a lot of temptations in this world. And as believers we continue to mess up. But He continues to forgive and forget them when we confess.

I believe that going to a Bible believing church does not make you a Christian but it does help you grow. And your presence there can help someone else. So, I don’t think it’s a once in awhile thing. We are meant to be in fellowship with other believers.

I believe that God’s heart is broken by our continued rebellion against Him. He will continue to desire a relationship with you until the day you die. It’s your choice. He is waiting.
