Watercolor Lessons

I have been enjoying learning about different art mediums over the last couple of years.  While most of the classes have been online, I am recently working on one from a book.  The book is “Modern Watercolor Botanicals” by Sarah Simon.

If I remember correctly, I learned about Sarah through the online course, Sketchbook Revival, last year.  I purchased the book, but am only now getting to it.

This is the watercolor journal I am using for each of the lessons.  The paper is beautiful, heavy and doesn’t warp.

The lessons start out on the basics, learning how watercolors react and how to use them effectively.

And the fun begins.  Please forgive the smudges on the pages.  I’m not sure how I managed to do that!

Sarah provides illustrations to copy or use as inspiration.  Though I didn’t trace them, I did use the basic designs in the book.  And then she walks you through applying the watercolor.

I have learned so much from the lessons in this book!  Watercolor is very different from oils or acrylics and if you embrace that, it becomes much more enjoyable!

I am following along with Sketchbook Revival again this year.  It is a free 2 week course.  Some lessons I will do and others pass over.  If you have any questions about it, let me know and I will point you in the right direction!
